Springbok News: Make or Break for Bok Skipper

(Supersport) As the dust settles on whatever transpires in the big Castle Lager Rugby Championship clash in Brisbane on Saturday, the regular Springbok captain will be in a much lonelier place facing what for him could be a potentially tricky obstacle in his path to playing in the World Cup.

With heavy rain predicted for Friday and likely to continue into Saturday, there must surely be some doubt in the minds of both Jean de Villiers and his DHL Western Province coach John Dobson as to whether this is really a good time to test his reconstructed knee.

De Villiers is slated to wear the WP No 12 jersey in what is effectively a Province second string side against the Pumas in a friendly at Groot Drakenstein Correctional Facility as the next step to him proving his readiness for the global rugby showpiece event that is set to kick off in England almost two months from now to the day.

With the conditions likely to be heavy underfoot it is hardly an ideal scenario, however, as it is in those conditions that players testing their fitness and who haven’t played in a while so often come unstuck by picking up hamstring injuries.
